I was on a podcast! …sort of…let me explain…
I frequently get goosebumps while I conduct. That chord, that key change, that moment…but why does it happen?
I decided to ask everyone's favourite science YouTube guy Hank Green, and his brother John Green by submitting the question to their podcast "Dear Hank and John." And I got quite the surprise last week when they actually read my question:
Dear Hank and John,
I am a choir conductor, and I often get goosebumps when my choir sings beautifully. Why and how does the music in the air translate into bumps on my skin?
Keep on singing, Katy
They didn't have a good scientific answer for me, but I'm very ok with that! It is beautiful to me that we can't actually explain what's going on when music translates to goosebumps. I'll remember that mystery whenever it happens, and just enjoy my body reacting to something in the air that no one can really explain.
Take a listen below, it should be cued up to around 33 minutes (it's after the Indy 500 question).
